Come join our energetic and dynamic team at Mike & Mike’s! Our Procurement Team is one of the key driving influencers of our business, so we are looking for an experienced Produce Buyer.

While overseeing a select basket of produce commodities, you, as a Produce Buyer, will review buying patterns, plan forward purchases in coordination with the Sales and Buying Teams, source supplies, and negotiate pricing, terms, and other business-related issues related to your basket of commodities. You will also manage key customer accounts as provided by the Director of Procurement.

This is a great opportunity for a disciplined and detail-oriented individual to utilize their excellent analytical thinking and relationship-building abilities. They also have an entrepreneurial attitude and effective negotiating skills, to name a few.

Responsibilities include:

• Strategic purchasing from local, domestic, and International growing regions and vendors
• Sourcing new suppliers for key items, ensuring suppliers are reliable and provide quality product
• Negotiating price and claims concessions to ensure commodities are competitive in the marketplace and provide optimal margins for the company
• Providing strategic assistance for cross selling and/or cross purchasing
• Working closely with Sales to identify and promote new items with in-store features and flyers
• Preparing annual buying budgets and updated forecasts for basket items
• Monitoring and maintaining proper inventory levels, and planning purchases accordingly

Qualifications include:

• Min 5 years of solid hands-on buying or selling experience in the fresh produce industry preferred
• Ideally, experienced working with retail chains or in the Toronto wholesale market
• Fluent spoken and written English
• Effective negotiation and relationship building abilities
• Strong business writing skills
• Computer literate in Microsoft Office programs
